AVSS announce – Drone Parachute for DJI Mavic 3 Enterprise and Mavic 3 Thermal
(New Brunswick, Canada) – AVSS – Aerial Vehicle Safety Solutions Inc. (AVSS) is pleased to announce the launch of the PRS-M3E, a drone parachute for the DJI Mavic 3 Enterprise and the DJI Mavic 3 Thermal. The DJI Mavic 3 Enterprise and Mavic 3 Thermal are among the most popular commercial drones used globally. AVSS’s redesigned parachute recovery system line-up offers a lightweight, small form factor, and capable parachute recovery system. The company has recently begun accepting pre-orders with delivery to authorized resellers commencing in July 2024.The PRS-M3E is a simple plug-and-play design that utilizes the DJI onboard PSDK. The initial launch of the PRS-M3E includes a Parachute Recovery System (PRS), a Flight Termination System (FTS), an Automatic Triggering System (ATS), a Manual Triggering Device (MTD), EASA 2512, ASTM F3322-22 documentation, and compliance with the FAA’s Category 2 and Category 3 requirements.

After launching the PRS-M3E, AVSS will then offer the PRS-M3EX, an EASA MOC 2511-compliant version with segregated FTS. Unlike other EASA MOC 2511-compliant versions, the PRS-M3EX will not require the end user to send the drone away for extensive modification to the drone’s internal wiring/ESC/motors nor does the PRS-M3EX use a questionable mechanical flight termination system that physically jams the propellers to stop them from spinning. The PRS-M3EX is a simple FTS slide-in module.

“2024 has turned out to be a great year for AVSS and the company’s compliant parachute recovery system offerings on the various DJI commercial drones. With recent commercialization and compliance testing completed on a small commercial drone, offering an ASTM F3322-22 compliant solution for the Mavic 3 Enterprise and Mavic 3 Thermal was a natural progression”, said Vice President of Operations, Mariah Murray. “Moreover, over the last three months, we have received numerous requests for us to build the PRS-M3E. At first, our team was hesitant to offer a parachute recovery system for the commercial Mavic 3 product line as the available payload weight of 130 grams is a difficult target when incorporating a commercially viable, non-invasive flight termination system and an acceptable descent rate for kinetic energy targets below 15 joules (11 ft-lbs). To commercialize the drone parachute for the PRS-M3E, our engineering team spent considerable time reducing the PRS-M3E product weight to be below the 130 grams of available payload weight. This engineering effort ensured the PRS-M3E baseline model does not exceed the listed Maximum Take Off Weight (MaxTOW) of the DJI Mavic 3 Enterprise and DJI Mavic 3 Thermal while meeting kinetic energy and transfer of energy targets set by Civil Aviation Authorities”.

About AVSS: Founded in 2017, AVSS – Aerial Vehicle Safety Solutions Inc. (AVSS) is a Canadian aerospace company commercializing technology for Urban Air Mobility. AVSS’s current products are ASTM F3322 parachute recovery systems for commercial drones, independent flight termination systems, and precision-guided delivery systems for last-mile delivery.

AVSS’s retrofit products for DJI products (DJI M3D, DJI M3TD, DJI M200, DJI M300 RTK, DJI M350 RTK) are distributed worldwide through their more than 50 authorized dealer network and sold directly to drone manufacturers across the world. AVSS also provides direct support to drone manufacturers and pilots who integrate the PRS product line for flight over people and BVLOS compliance, such as Skydio X10Brinc Responder. This includes the completion of four ASTM F3322 tests, several BVLOS Special Flight Operator Certificate approvals in Canada, the first FAA Means of Compliance from a parachute recovery system manufacturer for the FAA for Operations Over People rule, and the Light UAS Operator Certificate approved by EASA in Europe.[1] https://www.easa.europa.eu/en/newsroom-and-events/news/easa-publishes-amc-enhanced-containment-provisions
