Moldovan UAV Leader DanAero Selects Sky Power’s SP-275 Engine for SP4

Sky Power International is proud to support DanAero with the portfolio leading SP-275 FI TS ROS!

DanAero, based in Chisinau, Moldova, and led by the hugely experienced Anton Danici, instructed Sky Power International to provide a suitable propulsion system to bring to life the SP4 fixed wing UAV with an > 70kg MTOW and a 4m wingspan. The UAV will be used for commercial/industrial purposes with an anonymous end user requiring very specific platform attributes.

From landing gear to composite airframes, DanAero’s vision is to localise, where possible, all aspects of manufacturing within the company in Moldova, to reduce supply chain risk and to showcase DanAero as Moldova’s leading UAV manufacturer.

Sky Power International has supported DanAero for the last 12 months, from initial consultation to integration, engine break in and testing to first flights. It is clear, from my perspective, of the drive and determination of Anton Danici and his team to achieve the goals as set out by the customer.

The video below was recently provided during a break in the storms, with the end user on-site for the first test flight. Despite the crosswinds during take off, the UAV/engine system performed better than expected. It was noted at several stages just how powerful this engine is and, also, how quiet the engine operation at 100% load and rpm is – a testament to the tuned COTS exhaust system (and muffler) working in in unison.

The engine system is the largest twin cylinder in the Sky Power International portfolio with >16kW and 38Nm, with Sky Power International in-house subsystems from ECU, to starter generator and ignition systems. This engine is coupled with a Mejzlik Propellers 33×10 or 34×12 2B propeller to achieve the desired thrust.

Sky Power International is now supporting DanAero with final modifications before continuation of test flights, prior to customer delivery. We, collectively, are looking forwards to what the future may bring between this successful partnership – the sky is literally the limit!
