Global Drone Training – DJI operators check your maps!

DJI’s updates to their UK Flysafe Geozones has caused a few issues today. We have reports of drones not taking the updates properly, and others of drones not taking off as they were seeing the whole country as restricted. One pilot who was flying in what was previously an unlock zone didn’t have to unlock the zone but did have to connect their drone to a WiFi hotspot where it then required a verification by code to his mobile phone.

As the database introduces enhanced warning zones that match the UK CAA drone Flight Restriction Zones (FRZs), you will likely have more issues if operating near or in an FRZ.

The DJI Geozone map for the UK (https://lnkd.in/eQyhYRxb) is beginning to look a lot more like the official CAA FRZ maps now which is good in some ways as it does mean that there is consistency. This is part of a larger project to update the DJI system so look out for changes and ideally check that your drone is behaving properly before carrying out any commercial work.

Don’t forget, if you are flying in an FRZ you are required to have permission from the ANSP if active or the aerodrome owner if not. Permission to fly in an FRZ is an absolute legal requirement for all drones in the UK whether flying in the Open or Specific category.
