About the Position
Edge Autonomy of San Luis Obispo is seeking a senior GNC engineer to grow our small and agile team of engineers. We are looking for a candidate who can collaborate well with asmall team to develop unmanned aircraft products for military and commercial applications.
The work is hands-on, fast-paced, fun, and rewarding. There is a good variety of projects and challenges and exposure to multiple disciplines, including aerospace, mechanical, electrical, and software.
Minimum Requirements:
US Citizen
No clearance required
Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Engineering or equivalent
Not a remote position
Senior position: preferred 5+ year’s work experience in flight control for UAS, software implementation of flight control systems, flight performance testing, flight data review Chief Duties and/or Responsibilities:
Design and develop guidance, navigation, and flight control algorithms for unmanned
fixed-wing and VTOL aircraft
Write, test, and document C/C++ autopilot software code
Verify control law performance and troubleshoot flight control issues using 6-DOF
analysis tools, HIL simulation, and flight test data
Analyze customer supplied flight data to figure out what went wrong, and work out how
to make it better
Generate shop and flight test plans to explore or validate vehicle behavior
Participate in flight test activities
Analyze flight logs to (help) determine the root cause of issues
Perform simulations to answer what-if questions
Analyze vehicle firmware and communicate with the firmware team
Base Qualifications:
5+ years of relevant experience developing flight control software for fixed-wing aircraft, with demonstrated deep understanding of fixed-wing aircraft dynamics, control theory/design/analysis, and navigation theory/design/analysis
Demonstrated proficiency in C/C++
Experience working in computer model-based development of flight control systems, including proficiency in MATLAB/Simulink or another model-based development tool-set
Strong background in sensor fusion
Familiar with sensor and actuator characteristics and limitations
Experience tuning PID controllers, state estimators, signal processing, path planning
Control system simulation, implementation, test, and verification experience
Must understand engineering concepts, principles, and theory and experience
demonstrating the application of those concepts
Must have strong communication, computer, documentation, presentation, and interpersonal skills, ability to work independently and as part of a team
Additional Qualifications:
Experience with embedded system development and signal processing
Experience designing and implementing software for embedded real-time control systems
for unmanned aircraft and/or robotics

Hiring Requirements:
This is a salary position, requiring 40 hours a week during normal business hours.
