Job Summary:
ESAero is seeking an Aerospace Engineer with system safety engineering experience to join our team in San Luis Obispo, CA. This engineer will assist in developing and supporting aircraft and system safety assessment activities of unique all-electric and hybrid-electric aircraft configurations. Responsibilities include both qualitative and quantitative assessments of system safety per standard aerospace industry practices – including but not limited to Functional Hazard Assessment, Failure Mode and Effects Analysis, and lifetime reliability analysis. Engineer will be expected to complete safety assessment tasks under the direction of a project System Safety Lead.
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Support the development of aircraft system and item level requirements documents
- Assist in the development of Safety Assessment Process planning
- Develop and conduct Safety Assessment Process aircraft development activities
- Complete safety assessment tasks as directed by Team Lead
- Regularly report on progress to Team Lead
- Collaborate with 3rd party engineers
- Interface with industry experts regarding safety assessment and aircraft certification
Required Qualifications and Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Engineering or related field
- 2+ years of relevant engineering experience
- Familiar with aircraft conceptual and preliminary design activities
- Familiarity with a wide range of aircraft systems, including but not limited to: Propulsion, Thermal Management, Electrical, Avionics, and Fire Suppression Systems
- Familiarity with FAA Regulations 14 CFR Part 23/25, 27/29
- Willing to relocate to San Luis Obispo, CA
- U.S. Citizen
Desirable Qualifications and Skills:
- Master’s degree in Aerospace Engineering or related field
- 4+ years of relevant engineering experience
- Prior experience with top-down safety development & validation processes, aircraft function identification, and functional safety analysis
- Familiarity with aircraft development safety analysis processes, including but not limited to: FHA, PSSA, CCA, FTA, FMEA, ZSA
- Familiarity with aircraft safety quantitative analysis methods, including but not limited to: Basic component and system reliability analysis, MTTFF, MTBF, Failure Rates
- Experience with dedicated system reliability analysis tools
- Experience with electric aircraft propulsion technology
- Familiarity with SAE Aerospace Recommended Practice Guidelines and Methods, particularly ARP4761 and ARP4754A
- Familiarity with additional FAA Regulations 14 CFR Part 33, 35, 36, 121, 135
