Man, 44, charged with attempting to convey articles into prison

A 44-year-old man has been charged with attempting to convey a Class A article into prison, attempting to convey a Class B article into prison and possession with intent to supply.
Steven Kelly, of Thornwood Close, Anfield, was remanded in custody to appear before Liverpool magistrates court today, Friday 20th October.
Merseyside Police have arrested a man and recovered a drone and other items following an incident near at HMP Walton in the early hours of this morning, Thursday 19 October.
At around 12.40am, the staff at the prison sighted a drone flying over the prison with a package hanging below it. Officers attended and located a man in a nearby field who made off and was detained in a rear garden on Stuart Road North, Bootle.
The drone and controller were located in the field. A package was recovered under a van on Stuart Road North, containing mobile phones, cannabis and tobacco.
A 44-year-old man from Anfield was arrested on suspicion of attempting to supply prohibited articles into prison and has been taken to a police station for questioning.
Detective Chief Inspector Cheryl Rhodes said: “Merseyside Police will continue to seek ways to combat the illegal use of drones through cutting edge technology and information from communities. We continue to work in partnership with HMP Liverpool to keep the prison community and those in the wider community of Merseyside safe.”
