Ardupilot Mission Planner now connected to global UTM system

A drone data platform company and the world’s most popular drone control app have just partnered, connecting over a million drones to a global drone management platform. Mission Planner, created by Michael Oborne and the ArduPilot Developer team, now enables its users to more easily find the safest places to fly their drones, discover hazards and plot the best routes through a real-time connection to the world’s first drone services platform.
Now, drone pilots using the app will have access to real-time situation data that will help them conduct safer flights and it’s just the first step in a series of enhancements lined up, designed to improve the safety of drone operations over real-time data links.
“We’re excited to bring to our community of commercial and hobbyist pilots the best aeronautical, safety and operating data available,” says Craig Elder, Community Manager at ArduPilot and Co-Founder of the ArduPilot Initiative, a company dedicated to the commercial support of ArduPilot. “With this update, Mission Planner becomes integrated with Altitude Angel’s GuardianUTM platform and all our pilots will now have access to data which helps keep them safe, and reduces the risk of conflicts in the airspace. They can even see other drone flights taking place and hazards on the ground”.
GuardianUTM is fast evolving as a standard for information exchange in the emerging drone sector, providing practical solutions to safely integrate drones into our skies while unlocking their true potential.
“Over the coming months, we’ll be adding further capabilities of the GuardianUTM platform to Mission Planner”, says Neil Kidd, CTO at Altitude Angel. “These will include enabling Mission Planner users to get real-time alerts about nearby manned aviation, manage and file flight plans and obtain operational risk assessments, all without leaving the app” he continues.
Altitude Angel is on a mission to deliver harmony in our skies, creating solutions that enable the safe adoption and use of drones through its global airspace management platform.
