Drone Flies Into Electrical Lines, Knocking Out Power in West Hollywood

by Ryan Parker
More than 100 customers are without power in West Hollywood after a drone was crashed into power lines Monday.
The incident happened around 1:15 p.m. in the area of Sunset Boulevard and Larrabee Street, said Robert Villegas, a spokesperson for Southern California Edison.
“A drone flew into the wires,” Villegas told The Hollywood Reporter.
The object hitting the wires caused a span of them to fall, knocking out power to 183 customers, Villegas said.
Crews are working to restore the power, which is expected to be back by 9:30 p.m.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department is on the scene for traffic control.
There were no reported injuries, Villegas said. Objects hitting lines — balloons, animals — is common, but Villegas said this may be the first drone.
It is unclear whether the drone owner stayed on the scene.
