Intern shot with 80,000-volt, drone-mounted stun gun

When the company you are interning for asks you to ‘volunteer’ to be the test dummy for a prototype stun gun drone, you can say ‘no’.

Unfortunately the chap in this video said ‘yes’, as tech company Chaotic Moon demonstrated its latest design concept at SXSW in Austin, Texas.

The Chaotic Unmanned Personal Intercept Drone (Cupid) fires a 80,000-volt charge to incapacitate targets deemed a threat, and although only a concept and controlled by a smartphone app, it could be automated further.

‘We thought a lot about how could this be used,’ Chaotic Moon co-founder William Hurley – otherwise known as whurley – told the Verge.

‘Perhaps there’s a raid on a house and somebody runs. Why send somebody with a gun chasing him down the alley? The drone could just go and detain them and then you could just go and pick them up.’

The drone certainly packs a punch, with most police tasers firing 50,000-volt shocks.

We trust the intern was OK, even though he’s still on the… ‘safety’ mat when the footage ends.
