Defense systems and products manufacturer Elbit Systems Ltd. Sunday said it secured an order valued at about $35 million from the Israel Ministry of Defense for development of advanced features for Unmanned Aircraft Systems, to be supplied within three years.

One of the mission requirements is the quick re-configuration of the Unmanned Aircraft Systems, or UAS, payloads, the Israel-based company said.

The new order is in addition to recent contracts for a total amount of nearly $90 million, awarded by the Israel Ministry of Defense, or IMOD, for the supply of Hermes 900 UAS and maintenance services.

Elad Aharonson, general manager of Elbit Systems’ UAS Division said, “The IMOD’s decision to award this development contract reflects the trust and recognition of our technological capabilities and further strengthens our long-term strategic cooperation with the Israel Defense Forces in the UAS field.”
