Malfunctioning drone ruins near-perfect military exercise
More than 90 percent of all missiles fired during a live-fire air defense drill successfully hit their targets in a southern Pingtung County military drill ground yesterday, the military announced yesterday.
An out-of-control target drone, however, ruined the near-perfect performance given by local troops in the drill. The drone fell into a village in eastern Taitung County. No casualties were reported as a result of the accident.
A total of 25 out of 26 missile launchers were fired by members of the Air Force, Army and Navy during the two-hour drill at Jioupeng military base in Pingtung, announced General Ma Ze-yong (馬自勇), an Air Force senior official responsible for the drill, at a post-drill press conference at noon, yesterday.
