sUAS used by Indian Police for body hunt

Four months after the disappearance of Rajasthan nurse Bhanwari Devi, the CBI flew an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) over the area where her body is suspected to have been disposed of, scouring the terrain for any visible sign of her remains.

Investigators zoomed in on the suspected area on Monday after questioning key suspect Om Prakash Bishnoi, who is learnt to have told them that his brother Bishna Ram Bishnoi got rid of Bhanwari’s body after the murder.

CBI hopes that the map of the terrain generated by the UAV’s high-definition cameras will help narrow down the search field to pockets of high probability which can then be examined closely.

The UAV has been supplied by a Mumbai-based private firm. This is the first time that CBI has employed such a technique in an investigation of a disappearance and possible murder.
