Freefly Ember S2.5K

Freefly Ember S2.5K

Big news from the Camera team at Freefly! Today we announce the second camera in the Ember family – the S2.5K!  Here is the TL;DR: It’s a scientific beast in a very small package! Read on for all the details.

It’s easy.

Ember S2.5K maintains the simplicity and reliability of the original Ember and brings even more speed and capability for the scientific and industrial markets. You can go from capture to Instagram in under 30 seconds.

It’s fast.

With an all new super 35 quad bayer sensor, it shoots 2.5K at 2277FPS, 2K at 2,900FPS, and even faster at smaller heights (see them all on the website here).

It integrates with the Apple ecosystem.

We kept the ProRes codec for seamless integration into the Apple ecosystem, and we made things even more convenient by adding live preview and control to iOS and MacOS devices over USB-C and Wi-Fi. Now you can run and gun with just Ember + iPhone for a truly minimal and ultra efficient setup.

It’s versatile.

We developed a new, active EF mount lens which allows for control and reporting of focus and aperture from the camera, app, or API (no autofocus support).

We also introduced a new pSLC SSD that offers variable pre / post trigger options and can record continuously for up to 75,000 TB of usage.

It’s shipping in May.

The first batch of 10 Ember S2.5K cameras will ship in May, 2024 and the new apps and firmware for S5K will be shipping in April.

Logistics

  • Existing Ember customers can add the EF Mount to their camera (some cameras will need to come back to factory for upgraded circuit board to enable this).
  • Any Ember customer can add pSLC drive to enable Pre-Record (this feature will be active and drives will ship when new firmware launches on May 1st). Embers must have pSLC drive to enable pre-record.

Some more fun specs:

  • Active EF, PL, and variety of 3rd party interchangeable mounts
  • Control, Preview, and Playback all from iOS, iPadOS, and MacOS Free Apps
  • Industry leading stabilization
  • Amplify built into app
